The Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Ile Oluji, Fedpolel, in Ondo State, Prof Emmanuel Adedayo Fasakin, has been decorated as Man of the Year for his achievements which have turned the institution to Nigeria’s 13th best polytechnics in four years.

The award which was conferred on him by Nigeria’s former Defence Minister in charge of Navy, and a former governorship aspirant in Ondo State, Dr Olu Agunloye, in Akure the Ondo State capital on February 7, was given by an Akure news magazine, Trace.

After the conferment, Fasakin appreciated the magazine’s publisher, Mr Ebenezer Adeniyan, for the award which he dedicated to the staff and students of the institution for what he described as the collective achievements recorded since take-off.

To him, the story of the institution, which he titled ‘From Obscurity to Prominence’ and which he said tallied with his own life’s story, is that of a child who has turned adult at four.

He described the award as special among the over 100 awards he has bagged in that it was not solicited for.

His words: “Now our own story is a story that I can caption as ‘From obscurity to prominence.’ And that is the story of my life itself. Ditto to our school. In about four and a half years ago, we were not even established.

We came into existence in the middle of 2015. But what we have there now is seeing is believing. That is what I can say. The Lord has actually helped us. You can imagine, a child of four years behaving like an adult is a special child.

Our school is a destination to many students, to many parents who want their children to come to a good school. It is a special school. Out of 112 polytechnics in Nigeria, both private and public, we came 13th. So we have emerged.

I really want to dedicate this award to the Fedpolel, that is both staff and students of the Federal Polytechnic Ile Oluji. It’s not my own achievement. I cannot do it alone. So this award is dedicated to the staff and students and it would be placed in our school. I really want to appreciate everyone of you.”

He was supported by his wife, Dr, Mrs. Adebisi Fasakin, while being decorated with the award by the former Minister.

In an interview with The Radiance, she expressed deep gratitude to the Lord for what He had permitted to be achieved at Fedpolel since inception, using her husband only as a tool.
