Ondo State Government has charged Business owners and haulers operating in Ondo State have been asked by the state government to pay their statutory levies and haulage fees.
It gave the charge through the Commissioner for Commerce, Industries and Cooperative Services, Mrs Lola Fagbemi at a stakeholders’ meeting in Akure, the state capital.
She urged the haulers across the 18 local government areas in the state to pay up their haulage fees on finished and manufactured goods, fruits and allied products in accordance with the Law of the Federation of Nigeria, CAP. T2 of 2014.
Also, she solicited the support of local government chairmen for easy collection of haulage fees and business premises levies.
She said that registration of business premises is within the purview of the Ministry of Commerce, Industries and Cooperative Services, but not the local government and that there is one administration in the state working towards the same goal.
Forther, the commissioner explained that the ministry had served demand notice to the business premises across the state and a committee had been set up to monitor the collection of charges.
She said the ministry had intended to take full administration of the markets built by the state government, including ticketing in the markets for more revenue generation.
In their response, the stakeholders pledged their support to the state government, stressing that they would pay necessary levies and haulage fees to move the state forward.
Also responding on behalf of the council chairmen, the Chairman of Akoko South West Local Government, Mr Augustine Oloruntogbe promised to ensure that both the local and state governments work together to achieve the set objectives.
